Arizona Trip!

The last week of June the kids and I (Erin) headed out to visit my parents and see my Nana. We hadn't been out since November and it had been 2 years since we had been in summer so the kids were excited about the prospect of summer activities. I however was a bit nervous to make the drive by myself with the kids. It is about an 8 hour drive with minimal stops. We took off on a Monday morning around 7am. Our kids seem to travel better in the morning and I really wanted to try and beat the heat through phoenix on the way there. The kids did Amazing on the trip! Luke was happy with his set up (an ipod), I let Harper have her blanket a lot of the time and watch movies, and Sam that dude didn't even fuss or cry once. We made it 3 hours without stopping, did I mention I was limiting Harper and Luke's fluid intake? Funny thing is though the rest stop that we stopped out was also the same exit as Arizona State Penitentiary (whoops). We then made it pretty far into Phoenix before heading up the highway to my parents place (2 hours outside of phoenix) for our last stop. We stopped for lunch and a bit of playtime at Chick-fil-a, it was 116 degrees and Luke complained of his shorts burning. =) With 2 stops and happy campers we made it in 7 hours and 45 minutes.

Our time there was full of playing with Gramma and Papa, visiting Nana, going for walks, playing in the river, playing outside, finding wildlife, staying cool, the thrift store, Popsicles and ice cream, pizza, being spoiled (really just loved on) by Gramma and Papa and fun times with family!! We were there for a week and the time went too fast! The only thing we were really missing was Daddy who apparently was missing us terribly back home. =) I only have pictures from my phone but I will post them so you can see all the fun we had. We love going to Pine and visiting Gramma and Papa!! The trip on the way home was really great too! Sam protested a few times, I think he knew he was going to be in the car for a bit.

On our way out, we had to wake up Harper and Sam.
Napping in the car, he only took 2 25 minute naps but no big deal if he is happy.
View from my parents back porch.
Porch of fun!!
Sam's first popsicle. He loved the popsicle and sharing with Maggie.
Lukey!
Playdoh fun!

A night walk.
Sam loves guns.
Papa and Luke playing a hunting game at the Pizza place. The pizza was delicious!
Harper and Gramma watering a flower, Luke pretending to be an animal eating the corn. Funny thing is the animals came and ate the corn and the flower.
Harper and Nana. Harper affectionately called her "the old girl".
After naps trip to the river, the water was warm, it was shady but still in the 80s and the kids were in heaven! There favorite part that night was throwing the rocks.
Sam loved it and crawled all through the water. He has a diaper on but is so white you can't even tell.
Pure Joy!
So worn out that even Luke napped.

After dinner walk to the "store" for ice cream.
Last day visiting Nana.
Luke and his buddy Maggie
Luke and his new Pop Gun!
Sam an artist in the making.
Chalked up walkway.
Dirt and Trucks=a happy Sam, and yes he is wearing pajama shorts and no other clothes.
Last night....running to feed the horses and see the street where the donkeys live.

The horses.

The horses...were beautiful but they made me a bit nervous.

They got to stay up late watching a movie with Gramma and Papa on the last night.
Last stop in Cabazon before arriving at home, 7 hours and 45 minutes again!
